If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw that we were in San Francisco this weekend! Family moved there a few months ago and just closed on a house, so wanted to make sure to visit before we left the west coast!
We definitely wanted to visit Alcatraz, so we booked those tickets a few week’s in advance (a must for summer time) I was there when I was little, so it was neat to see what I remembered. Turns out I just remembered not wanting to go behind the bars since I was afraid I would get locked in. Not much has changed 🙂
Next, we had lunch on pier 39 at Boudin. It was good, nothing life changing, I’d call it SF’s version of Panera. Then went to Ghirardelli. Having coffee with ice cream makes me think of my Grandma who likes a little ice cream in her coffee when she doesn’t have cream 🙂
After we were full on bread and ice cream, we crossed the Golden Gate bridge on the way to Muir Woods.
We got there in the late afternoon, so parking wasn’t bad. I’ve heard that it can get busy, so they also offer a shuttle. One of the redwood parks is definitely a MUST see on the west coast.
The next day we visited a a few parks along the coast. The photos above are from the Sutro Bath ruins, a massive indoor swimming pool complex built in the late 1800s.
We tried bubble tea (tea with milk and tapioca balls), at first it was good, then it was ok, and then it was, I don’t think I like this … This photo was taken just before we discarded it. I’m weird with texture and sipping little jello like balls while drinking tea ended up not being for me. We then made our way to the painted ladies, aka house from Full House intro.
We did a lot of touristy things since this was our first time staying in SF, so if you’ve been you probably know about all of these things 🙂
Other places that we went with no pics, lombard st (the curvy one), Coit tower (best view of the city), Tony’s pizza (yum!), Sausalito and Marin (cute cities with cute shops)
Have you been to SF? What did I miss?? 🙂

We were JUST there last week! In fact, we drove right through your town on our drive up from LA to SF (on Rt. 1). Gosh, I'm sure you're going to miss living such a beautiful place! I wish we'd had a chance to go to Muir Woods while we were there, but we ran out of time :(. Looks like y'all had a great trip! Here's my SF recap in case you're curious what we did on our first trip there: http://www.mayricherfullerbe.com/2013/08/california-trip-part-3-san-francisco.html

Too funny! I'm a long time reader of your blog, and I was in San Fran this past weekend as well. You saw some great things, and if you're like me, you're probably glad you're not going to be there next weekend when they close the Bay Bridge!

I'm a relatively new follower to the blog as well; love your style! My husband and I were in San Fran earlier this month for a wedding! Coming from Nashville, California was BEAUTIFUL to see 🙂 We did Boudin's, Ghiradelli, and Muir Woods as well. Beautiful!

I have never been, but have ALWAYS wanted to make it out there. I did a little loop a few years ago and went to San Diego and LA. I really really wanted to make it there, but it was just too much driving in a short period of time. Looks like you all had a great time! I even have some fabulous shops written down that I specifically want to go to, too!

Looks like you had an amazing weekend!! I've always wanted to go to the Sutro Baths. Next time you have to check out Tadich Grill. It's the oldest restaurant in SF and their cioppino is AMAZING!!

Sounds like you had a great time, I've always wanted to visit San Francisco! I've thought about trying bubble tea, but I think the texture might get me too.

I didn't get to go to the Sutro Baths while I was there! 🙁 I think one of our favorite memories was walking through China Town trying to decide where to eat when an older Chinese man standing on a corner handed us a flyer for a place. We glanced it over and thought, "eh, nothing special" so we kept walking. We passed him again and decided, "what the heck." So this little old man led us up one of the steepest hills I've ever seen or walked up (and to be in SF, that's saying something) to this smallest little "looks-like-people-may-have-been-murdered-here-before" places I've ever seen. BEST CHINESE FOOD I'VE EVER HAD!!! I can't even remember the name of it right now, but it was ahhhmazing. So whenever we're talking about SF, that story ALWAYS gets brought up. You never know! Gotta take a chance every once in a while. 😉
