If you follow my instagram feed @sarahmdorseydesigns you might of seen this neat little chair found at a consignment shop …
Love the caning and the interesting lines, but the upholstery’s time has past. There was so much dust when removing the fabric and foam that I think I’m going to replace the foam as well and nix the tufting.
Here it is after demo – it’s kinda hard to see in the photo, but the wood has a weird speckled finish, so I plan to paint as well. Luckily the caning is in great shape!
I am thinking of using this white Waverly fabric (actually very white, instagram darkened it up) with Scotch Guard, but am having second thoughts … does any have any experience with that on a piece that isn’t used everyday?
I’m off to prime and paint!

Hi Sarah- I found your blog awhile ago and love all your projects. Thought I'd de-lurk because another blogger friend used a similar fabric on a fainting couch. http://www.bijoulovelydesigns.com/search?q=fainting+couch&x=0&y=0
Holly is really nice, if you emailed her she would definitely get back to you with how well the fabric is holding up.
Good luck!

Seriously starting to feel like we are weirdly cosmically aligned…I have a cane chair that looks a LOT like this one that I thrifted a couple weeks ago and will be reupholstering and painting soon. Same deal, the cane is in great condition. Can't wait to work on mine, and can't wait to see what you come up with on this one!

Too funny. I recently found very similar chairs on my Craigslist recently as well. http://thelittleblackdoor.blogspot.com/2012/06/watch-out-im-armed.html . I'm in the middle of reupholstering them now and its going well. Love the fabric you chose.

Great chair! I've started on a similar one. I've sanded it and painted it – including the cane. I like the new look of it, and if you're careful not to get too much paint on the cane, that's not a problem. I'm currently working on the fabric, but I'm using "normal" thick cotton fabric. xo Anja
