I’m so excited to share that I’m a Michael’s Maker this year! What does that mean? Each month, Michael’s will be challenging me to create a project and I’ll be sharing it here. Along with myself, lots of talented bloggers will be sharing their projects – so it will be fun to hop around and see everyone’s take on it! You can meet all of the Michaels Makers here!
The Michaels Makers Summit was a few week’s ago in Sonoma, CA – unfortunately, I had to miss it. Looking at everyone’s photos, I was super bummed!
Several classes were taught – flower paper art, watercolor, weaving and image transfer.
BUT, I was able to take the classes online! You can too, for FREE until August 22!!
I watched all of the classes, but focused on watercolor. I’ve never taken a watercolor class, so I was excited to pick up a few techniques!
My main take aways were – not to overwork the paint and let it blend and dry on it’s own.
You can see, I got a little impatient and moved this one while it was still wet. Yao Cheng recommended working on a few water color blocks (which I’ve never used before) so you can work on another while one dries.
Yao also shared that you have to move fast, so the paint interacts with each other. So mixing the paint is quick and somewhat spontaneous – it’s good to have a pre determined palette so you’re not focusing on that as you go.
I focused mostly on practicing the blending techniques.
and drawing shapes.
Buying all of the supplies at one time can be an investment, but I’ve found that to get a good result, you need quality materials. Maybe start with just a few colors of paint and build up a collection as you get more comfortable (plus you can use a coupon each time!)
I’m looking forward to trying more projects from the classes – all are topics that I’ve been interested in, but I’ve never tried!
Remember, you can take them for free until the 22nd if you’d like!
Stay tuned for Michaels Maker updates and be sure to follow along with the other Michaels Makers too!
