Yesterday I finished the dresser! Click to read more about the lamps, headboard, and pillows
I started with this from craigslist for $15 – Annabelle isn’t too sure about it …
It wasn’t in the best shape but David was able to fix the drawer by adding some wood where it had broken off
It also needed to be higher so that it was the same height as the other dresser – so the front curved piece was removed – I took it into Ace Hardware – they cut a straight piece to size and only charged me .50 (you can’t buy much for .50 today!)
** note: typically you want the top of a nightstand to be about level with the top of the mattress (~24″-28″). Ours are taller at 34″; however, we were in desperate need for more storage and got a great deal on both dressers, so we decided to go with it 🙂
I attached it with finishing nails and filled them with wood filler – I also filled in some of the dings at the same time
David built supports on the bottom out of left over 1 x 4s to attach the legs – which I also picked up at Ace for $2.99 each
The legs were screwed into place (we applied gorilla glue for added strength)
The whole piece was sanded to remove the protective coat – primed (I used a foam roller) and painted with SW Anew Gray Pro Classic Semi Gloss with XIM Extender – same as the writing desk chair – it took two top coats
I applied liming wax to the legs – same that I used on the writing desk
I love the finished look – I think it looks sooooo much better!
Check out this post to read about the dresser on the other side of the bed (which I will be painting the same color as this dresser)

Where did you get the lovely hardware? And the happy gold pouf? So beautiful!
Sarah says
Thanks Michelle! The hardware is from anthropologie and the pouf is from target in the seasonal home decor section.

So I just realized that I gave the wrong person credit for sharing your blog. Silly me. Danielle from danielleoakeyinteriors shared your work on her blog. Anyway, I just thought I'd come by to correct that. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks so much Daisy!!

Found your blog on Better After. Wow Great job! It looks fantastic! Was wondering where you got the gorgeous bedskirt? I love the pattern and the pillows that match. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your blog.
Sarah says
Hi Barbara! Thanks for your sweet comment!! I made the bedskirt with Covington Windsor Citrus fabric, please see link below for source.

I just found your blog and I love it! All of the posts I've read so far are amazing. I want to take this whole room and stick it in my house.
Anyway, I love the fabric you used for the bedskirt. I'm thinking of using the same one for an upholstered headboard in the master bedroom. The background of the fabric looks white in your pictures, but looks REALLY ivory in the pictures on fabric.com. I just wanted to see what you thought of the fabric and if you think the actual color of the fabric is more like your pictures than the one on the website. Thanks for your help!
Sarah says
Hi Sam! Thanks so much for stopping by! I would say that it is a light ivory. Also, the fabric does have a slight texture and is slightly transparent. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 🙂

What about your lamp shades? Any idea what that fabric is? Target.com (as recently as 2 weeks ago) sold that same print in a rectangle tablecloth. I had planned to buy some, split them down the middle and make curtains with them. Only to find out last night they're no longer available for purchase 🙁 I'm so bummed! And of course not available in stores. So now I'm desperate for that fabric…
Sarah says
Hi Amanda! Lampshades are from Target 🙂
Sarah says
Also, I know Target makes shower curtains, table cloths, and draperies out of the same print (different colors) but I believe that they print is Target exclusive.
Amanda E says
Gah! Of course it's a Target exclusive, lol. You're ruining my life Target! This is so frustrating 🙁 Maybe I'll try calling and see if I can track some down somewhere. I've looked and no shower curtain or drape in this fabric. Apparently just the random lamp shade and table linens. Booo….
Thanks for your help though!

Where did you get your bed skirt? Its amazing!
Sarah says
I made it by sewing panels of Windsor Citrus by Covington over a cheap bedskirt 🙂 I don't have a tutorial but, I basically just cut panels the width of the sections of the bedskirt and sewed the edges and sewed the top to the existing bedskirt.

Love the blog but wanted to give a shout out to Annabelle. She looks very much like my childhood dog, Mildred. Any idea what breeds went into such a marvelous result. We never could quite figure it out!
Sarah says
Hi! We think that Annabelle is a Beagle/Jack Russell mix (perhaps a few others too? 🙂

I love the dressers-as-nightstands! Can you give more details on the size of the dressers (width, height) and the height of your mattress/bed? I'm not sure how how tall the dressers should be… thank you!
Sarah says
Hi! Our dressers are about 34" height x 27" wide. Typically you want a nightstand to be approximately level with the mattress (about 27") depending on your preference. Ours are definitely taller, but we have limited storage for clothing and needed the extra space and got a great deal on both dressers so decided to go with it. Hope this helps!
