I’m back today, sharing another paint update! As you can see from the before and after it already looks a lot different! We just finished priming all of the beams and caulking the seams (22 and counting tubes of caulk!) It took forever – the rough wood is hard to work with and it requires a lot of cutting in. This area will be my office. I can’t wait to see it finished!! We’re renting a sander next weekend to work on refinishing the floors. Then we’ll be installing a new railing!
This has definitely been a slow process, but I’m so glad that it is coming together!! The hardest part is over 🙂

I would whitewash the brick! It looks great as is though!
Wow so light and bright! Bet that was a ton of work- I would leave brick alone for some contrast and warmth, but go with what you love. It will be great 🙂
Not one of your choices, but what about grey? Seems like it would be a more modern way to have contrast instead of the current color brick. No matter what you do I know it will look amazing, I love your style!
CRAZY how much lighter and brighter (and therefore better!) it is! Way to go guys! Tedious seems to be the name of the game. 🙂 So I love the brick natural BUT in saying that, I'm not too much of a fan of the natural color of yours. Seems a little peachy? Might just be the coloring from my screen. Wonder if you could stain it to add the smallest hue of gray to offset that peachy? Or an ashy carmel color?
Yes it is peachy, I hate the shade!! I've never looked into stain, I'll have to do that – love the idea of making it a grayish tint!
I agree with Sheena, I think a grey/charcoal stain would look great! I think white washing would bring too much white to the space. Can you white wash with grey?

I'm not loving the peachy brick with the wood floors… I'm not sure I would go white, but my vote would be to change it somehow! You guys always have great instincts, so I'm sure it will look awesome! 🙂
Thanks Brynne! I completely agree that I don't like the brick with the floors!! Im not sold on all white, so I definitely want to look at other options. Also, I forgot to mention, we will be sanding the floors down and sealing them with clear. It's red oak, but hopefully it will be more neutral once we're done.

What about planking over the brick? Love that you painted it all white.

You two work so hard…always with excellent results. I like the idea of a whitewash for the brick, just to soften it a little. But I totally love anything in grey, so think that would look good too. Whatever you do, it will be smashing, it always is!

I agree with previous commenters…I like the idea of natural brick in your space, but don't like the actual color of your brick, so I would paint it. White is the easiest option. I'm afraid a white wash on your brick might just wind up looking pink. It is looking awesome already!
With your new white walls, the brink is coming off too orange. I think whitewash or even a gray tint would add some breakup to the solid white but get rid of the too orange color in the house.
The white paint looks amazing – such a huge transformation already. I love the natural brick – I think the warm tones with the white give the whole space more depth, although I guess you could do that with wood furniture too if you did decide to paint (in that case, I'd go white wash vs all white).
Sarah, I can't even imagine how much work this is, but it looks AMAZING. So worth it! I was hoping you'd go with all white. 🙂 I'm actually liking the brick here (I'm a New Yorker–we love exposed brick), but it would look great whitewashed too.
What work, girl! It looks amazing though. Man, I'm not sure on that fireplace. I think it depends on what your going for and what you plan to put on it. Anything you do will certainly be beautiful!
QUITE impressive! The white is amazing! I've painted all the brick in my house so I'm a brick painter. That being said, I like the contrast of your brick with the white walls and ceiling. It might be a little too white with the brick painted….
I'm amazed by the before and after! The difference is astounding. So much brighter and lighter feeling. Love. I like the brick as it adds a nice contracts, but think it would look gorgeous whitewashed too. Since you're sanding the floors down, will you be changing them to a different stain color? Love the progress!
Thanks Amanda! We just sanded a section of floor – we're planning on sealing with clear and leaving them natural 🙂
Wow, Sarah, that's one amazing change! I agree with others, love the brick but not necessarily the color. But, I think that white would be too much. I like the idea that others have suggested of some sort of gray wash…
