Happy ORC week 3! Time has really gone by fast .. a little too fast. We’re a little behind schedule, but I’m hoping we can get caught back up this weekend! We finished painting the built in, installed the cabinet doors and beautiful hardware from Schaub!
We’re almost done with the living room built in bench – we’re waiting to finish it until the slat wall is up – just to confirm how that meets. We may be shortening the bench since it’s a pretty tight walkway between the sofa and chair. P.S. like our storage area? That’s where we’ve been keeping all of our tools to keep John safe.
After a little freak out this weekend, I’ve been having second thoughts about the design of both built ins – but I think we’re on the right track. The cabinets are a little higher 20″ than I’d like (18″ is standard seating height) and the floating bench on the end was looking off. David suggested thickening the leg piece (and possibly putting it at an angle to help with the narrow walkway – plus it might look neat .. still on the fence. So it will either be on an angle or just shorter than the slat wall ..
Here’s my original design in Sketchup.
David’s almost done with the slat wall, here are the bottom and top pieces, just need to cut a few more slats and put it together!
We’re replacing our thin pine stairs with thicker oak treads and creating a banister to match.
Lots and lots of shipments have been arriving – yesterday the prettiest pillow covers came from SWD Studio!
Fingers crossed we get caught up!!

I’ve been admiring the floor to ceiling shelves you guys built since week two! Would you consider doing a post describing in more detail how you planned and built them?
Thanks!
