Whew, that was fast! It’s time for our One Room Challenge week 2 update – so far, we are on track (fingers crossed it stays that way!!) We’ve just about finish the dining room built in – it just needs one more coat of paint. Also, I’ve always wanted a library ladder (hardware) and just ordered one, I’m so excited!!! We will see how that goes with the little guy!
(did you catch a peek of our new sconces!? I love them!!
Since this photo, we have primer and the first top coat on. We used finished cabinets and cabinet fronts on the bottom, the sides and shelves are 3/4″ plywood (if you’re near Frederick, MD / Hagerstown, MD, Hicksville Planing Mill is a great place to buy wood, especially if you need a large quantity) and the facer board is Poplar flat Stock from Metrie, we used maple for our other built in and the Poplar was much easier to cut and work with.
Big plans for the dining room, ever since moving in I’ve wanted to put windows over here, it’s SO dark on this side of the house! In place of the mirrors, we will be adding windows. I cannot wait!! We have more plans for windows, but I’ll keep that a secret for now ..
David also got started on the coffee tables for the living room. Using a chain saw mill and a longer blade – he cut 4″ slices. I loove how they are coming along!
This tree came from our neighbor, it is huge, so glad that we can repurpose them! David is knocking off the bark, sanding and applying food grade mineral oil as I type this. The mineral oil is to slow the drying process, hopefully to minimize the cracking as it dries – and seal it. Here’s the one we got.
We also started the living room built in bench, but I’ll wait until next week to share. We have an ambitious list to finish before the weekend to stay on track, wish us luck! Special thanks to the Grandparents for helping to watch little buddy so we can work!!
If you need to catch up, check out our before photos and design plan in Week 1 post!
Also, be sure to check out everyone’s progress!

Oh, those tree slices will be gorgeous! And I’m excited about your new windows. I would live in a glass house if I could! Fun times ahead!

thank you! I’m so excited about the coffee tables too! If we ever design our own house, I will have floor to ceiling windows everywhere (at least that’s the dream!)
